Smart Gardening host Deanna Connell, feels right at home in the garden. As a Master Gardener, she exudes excitement for all things green. Deanna Connell traded in her reporter’s notebook, for garden gloves after the birth of her first child. She is a former award winning reporter and news anchor for ABC television affiliates in Portland and Eugene, Oregon. Her love for gardening took root in the Willamette Valley as a guest during gardening segments on news broadcasts. Her background in journalism serves her well as she learns the secrets of smart gardening from experts across the country.
Deanna Connell lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband, two children, black lab dog, and an extended Cuban and Irish family. She loves spending time in the garden with her family, growing summer vegetables, herbs, and her favorites--- dahlias and roses. She’s passing on her love of gardening as well as her family’s native language, Spanish, to her children. In her free time, she’s an avid hiker and beginning golfer. When she’s not tending to the garden, Deanna enjoys camping with her family and taking advantage of the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty. Deanna is an alumna of Oregon State University.
